Midvale is getting cuter

September 22, 2026 · — Ivana Martinez

First Up

Midvale, a little city in the very middle of the Salt Lake Valley, is glowing up. But it didn’t happen by accident.

  • Local faves are opening in Midvale. Blacksmith Ice Cream and Honeysuckle Coffee Company have brand new locations on Midvale’s Main Street. The old Vincent Drug featured in “The Sandlot” is now a third Cactus & Tropicals greenhouse, with The Bambino pizzeria next door.
  • Midvale City incentivized Main Street with low or no interest loans for up to $250,000 if businesses could promise job creation, street activation, or adaptive reuse. Saltfire Brewing is a recent recipient, though yet to open. You’ll also find new trees and murals lining the sidewalk. [Midvale Redevelopment Agency, City Journals]
  • Salt Lake County is moving in: In 2027, Salt Lake County government will relocate to the old Overstock building in Midvale, bringing roughly 1,200 employees with them. [Salt Lake County]
  • This fall, you’ll vote on a $128 million parks and recreation bond. If you approve it, then $21 million will help Midvale build Union Park Recreation Center, with a swimming pool, lazy river, and an indoor track. [KSL]
  • At the intersection of TRAX, I-15, and in the center of the valley, I imagine Midvale will be a 2034 Winter Olympics crossroad. For now, you’re invited to Trick-or-Treat on Main Street on Saturday, Oct. 24. [Engage Midvale]
