Lola, one of Utah's blanket companies, is having a bad PR week online. If your algorithm is serving you thin-blanket outrage, welcome to Lolagate.

  • WTF is Lolagate? TikToker and longtime customer Allie Neuzil criticized her new throw, saying it was noticeably thinner than past purchases (they range from $100 to $325). Lola offered Neuzil a replacement, but allegedly canceled her order after she refused to take down her complaint video. Other customer complaints about thin blankets were already rolling in, hence “Lolagate.” [TikTok, Inc.]
  • Lola Blankets are immensely popular online. The company sold more than 1 million blankets in 2025. Their success can be attributed to unique brand deals, edgy billboards on 1-15, and influencer partnerships cementing them as an internet darling. [Utah Business]
  • The industry take: Jack Stauss, co-owner of Party Shirt International, told us drama like this typically happens as businesses scale up. He points to quality control as a hands-on, continuous process, citing consistency as one of the hardest things to nail with consumer products. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
  • The blanket wars: Utah throw company Minky Couture had the freeway on lock with family-friendly billboards long before Lola rolled in with much sexier marketing. They've been in an I-15 turf war ever since. Now, some people online are hyping Minky Couture, championing their products for being the "original.” Are you taking a side?

What's CITY Talking About

Utahns Are Aging out of College

Utah is still the youngest state in the nation, with a median age of 32.4. But we are aging fast! New demographic data projects a decline in 18 to 24 year olds. There is an opportunity for our colleges and universities to reach older audiences, though. Roughly 37% of working-age Utahns don’t have a postsecondary degree. [Census Bureau, Kem C.
