First Up

More than three weeks after a massive fire displaced residents at Midvale’s North Union Apartments, tenants are escalating their fight with property management (Keller Investment Properties). Residents rallied outside the complex on Saturday, demanding more say in the recovery process and answers about alleged thefts, insurance coverage, and compensation. [KSL]
- The July 31 fire forced residents out of all 220 occupied units and burned for more than 24 hours, ultimately impacting more than 160 apartments. Investigators believe a mechanical issue in the attic caused the blaze. [KSL]
- Some say the losses didn’t stop with the fire. Tenants allege money, passports, credit cards, documents, and even furniture were missing when they were eventually allowed into their units. They also claim they learned from city officials that management knew about earlier thefts but hadn’t warned them. [ABC4]
- The hardest-hit fourth floor remains off limits. Keller Investment Properties says it's been emailing fourth-floor residents regular updates but can’t allow them back in until the investigation is complete and the floor is safe. Tenants say they want to be included in meetings with inspectors, city officials, and safety personnel — and want answers on remediation and compensation. [FOX 13]
- Insurance is another unresolved question. Residents paid a required $15 monthly renters’ insurance, but learned after the fire that it covered damage to the building, not their personal belongings. Some renters say leasing agents explicitly told them they didn’t need a separate policy. Community groups and neighbors have stepped in with GoFundMe campaigns, temporary housing, furniture, and other support. [KSL]

Airport Shuttle to Park City
Park City is exploring a winter shuttle between Salt Lake City International Airport and Park City, with hourly, reservation-based rides potentially costing around $15. The idea could offer a cheaper alternative to rideshares and rental cars while cutting traffic, but officials still need roughly $390,000 of funding before the pilot program can move forward.
