What's CITY Talking About

Cox Names June ‘Fidelity Month’

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox declared June 2026 “Fidelity Month,” aligning Utah with other conservative-led states promoting “core values” like faith, family, and patriotism rather than officially recognizing Pride Month. [Deseret News]

Two New Utah Supreme Court Nominees

In other Cox news, the governor nominated federal prosecutor Stephen Dent and LDS Church attorney Jay Jorgensen to two newly created seats on the expanded seven-member Utah Supreme Court. The state Senate is expected to vote on the appointments June 17 after two public hearings. [KSL]

Westminster Report Card

A new Forbes analysis gave Westminster University a D grade, citing steep enrollment declines and budget deficits. University leaders dispute the assessment, pointing to strong student retention rates, fundraising success, and a new president focusing on rebuilding enrollment and long-term financial stability. Salt Lake Chatter

Your primary ballot should be in your mailbox soon, so we asked the Democratic candidates in Utah’s 1st Congressional District race to answer some questions before you vote. Today, we’re sharing some of your comments and concerns on the candidates.

Editor's note: Notably, there were no comments on our post in favor of Ben McAdams, which is why none are featured here.

“[I’m] voting for Liban … it’s our time to lead.” — @naticonrazon

“I’ll be voting for Nate, the candidate that multiple fair polls have shown to be the progressive candidate with the best odds of winning against Mc-AIPAC.” —@sokennethwasall

“Let's go @farrellforcongress 🎉 common sense leadership!” — @elosaurus

“We don’t need a candidate with stock in data centers at a time like this @repbenmcadams” — @_kya_lynn

“If Ben McAdams is having such a hard time saying he’s a progressive … he definitely isn’t. No one else had an issue saying it with their full chest. CD1 deserves a true progressive, not a centrist in disguise.” — @amandadebry

“Vote for Nate. I honestly would love to see Liban in the Utah legislation, he should start there, NOT congress. If he stays in this CD1 race and divides the vote against McAdams, I will never forgive him for his lack of political experience and ability to step down for the larger progressive collective. If McAdams wins this spot on the ballot this fall, it will be because Liban and Farrell divided us instead of uniting us. I will never vote for either of them ever again.” — @karinakirk
