🗳️ The Democrats running for CD1
June 2, 2026 · City Cast Salt Lake producer Ivana Martinez wrote today’s “What Salt Lake’s Talking About,” and executive producer Emily Means wrote our “Meet the Candidates” guide.
Hey, Salt Lake! The long-vacant site of the former Utah Theatre on Main Street is becoming a pop-up summer art and beer garden called Art Garten. It will feature live music, food trucks, local drinks, and outdoor art installations Thursday and Friday nights through September.

What's CITY Talking About
Jammy Takeover
A new brunch spot is headed to the 9th and 9th neighborhood. Jammy Brunch Club is taking over Chubby Baker’s former location and is set to open sometime this month. [Instagram]
Ex-Mormons Vote Red
A new analysis sampling 316 former members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints found 41% identify as Republican, a significant shift from the decade before. One explanation for the change is church leaders' rhetoric around issues like the pandemic and gay marriage. [KUER]
Free E-Bike Voucher
Utah’s E-Bike Incentive Program is giving a $400 or $800 voucher to qualifying residents. To apply you must be 18 years or older and live in one of the following counties: Davis, Salt Lake, Tooele, Weber, or Utah. [Utah Department of Environmental Quality]

Utah’s First Congressional District Democratic Primary: Meet the Candidates

The Democratic primary for Utah’s First Congressional District is shaping up to be one of the state’s most-watched races, thanks to a newly drawn congressional seat that favors Democrats. So, will voters send a Democrat (and *gasp* maybe even a progressive) to Congress? You decide!
City Cast Salt Lake sent a survey to all four candidates, so you can compare where they stand on the issues shaping Salt Lake right now. Answers are fact checked but are unedited, and candidates are listed in alphabetical order by last name.
In the News
State Sen. Nate Blouin is again calling on fellow progressive candidates Liban Mohamed and Michael Farrell to drop out and consolidate support behind him in an effort to defeat the more moderate Ben McAdams. The push comes after a poll commissioned by the Blouin campaign showed McAdams leading the race.
