❄️ Florida just out-snowed SLC
February 4, 2026
Good morning! You might have noticed this newsletter arrived in your inbox today with a new name. We thought this change was a better reflection of who we are: a local team who creates both the newsletter and the City Cast Salt Lake podcast.
TL;DR: I’ll still be in your inbox every morning, now with the City Cast Salt Lake name!
What's DC Talking About
Federal Lawsuit Over Congressional Map
Utah’s redistricting battle just escalated. Republican Congressional Reps. Celeste Maloy and Burgess Owens filed a federal lawsuit to block the state’s court-ordered congressional map. They argue the Legislature, not a judge, should decide district lines. [Utah News Dispatch]
Florida Out Snowed Utah
You read that right. In January 2026, Florida saw more snow than Salt Lake City. It marked only the second time since 1885 that SLC failed to measure at least 0.1 inch in January, which is normally our snowiest month. [The Weather Channel]
Ballerina Farm Halts Raw Milk Sales
Ballerina Farm has paused selling raw milk after state tests last summer found high levels of coliform bacteria in some samples. The farm is now selling only pasteurized milk and plans to build a new facility dedicated to raw milk in the future. [KPCW]
- I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: Raw milk is propaganda I’m not falling for. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
Utah’s Newest Political Party
A new political party has entered the chat in Utah: the Peoples' Freedom Party. The third party is pitching itself as an option for working class people. What's their platform, and what do they hope to accomplish? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
