January 27, 2026

What's CITY Talking About
Tracking Data Center Water Use
A bill would require Utah data centers (10,000 square feet or larger) to report their water use to the state amid worsening drought. HB 79, sponsored by Rep. Jill Koford, R-Ogden, passed a House committee unanimously and now heads to the full House. [Utah News Dispatch]
Prop 4 Repeal Loses Ground
Despite a recent Trump endorsement, Utah Republicans’ effort to repeal the voter-approved anti-gerrymandering law Proposition 4 continues to lag. New numbers show the campaign at about 40%, trailing behind the pace needed to qualify for the November ballot. [Utah Political Watch]
Fossils Excavated in Eastern Utah
Construction at Dinosaur National Monument uncovered long-necked dinosaur fossils believed to be Diplodocus, marking the site’s first fossil excavation since 1924. About 3,000 pounds of fossils were removed and are now being studied and partially displayed at the Quarry Exhibit Hall. [KPCW]
