☑️ The Utah Legislature picks a map
October 7, 2025 · Thanks to City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta for writing today's "What's Salt Lake Talking About."
Good morning! Can you help a Hey Salt Lake reader find the best ghost tour in town?
“Now that it's officially October, I'm on the lookout for spooky season activities to enjoy on the weekends. I took a ‘historical ghost tour’ of the city when I was a kid, but there's got to be other cool tours with a spooky or macabre tilt to them now. Do y'all or any readers have suggestions?”

What's CITY Talking About?

Utah Legislature Chooses Map C
Who is Map C? If approved by Judge Dianna Gibson, it will be the map determining Utah’s four U.S. Congressional districts. Favored by the Utah Republican Party, it splits Salt Lake east to west and gives Democrats just a six-point disadvantage in the easternmost district. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Bar Exam Alternative Gets Approval
Great news for law students anxious about a rigorous two-day bar exam. The Utah Supreme Court just approved an alternative pathway to practicing law here, which includes 240 hours of practice under a licensed attorney and written exam. [Utah News Dispatch]
Forest Service Behind on Wildfire Prevention
Fall is the ideal time for prescribed burning in the west, a measure of wildfire prevention. But the U.S. Forest Service must pause all burning during the government shutdown as employees decry no pre-planning from leadership. [High Country News]
- Also in public lands news: The Bureau of Land Management has sold 17,000 acres in oil and gas leases in Utah since the “Big Beautiful Bill” removed the agency’s ability to consider the recreational value of parcels. [Salt Lake Tribune 🔒]
