Gov. Cox Declares State of Emergency for Wildfires
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has declared a 30-day state of emergency in response to a severe wildfire season that has burned nearly 114,000 acres and cost over $103 million in suppression efforts. The order enables full use of state resources, as major fires like the Monroe Canyon Fire continue to threaten homes, livestock, and water supplies. [Salt Lake Tribune]
Nature’s Bakery Factory Opens in SLC
Nature’s Bakery, owned by Mars Inc., has opened a $240 million manufacturing facility in Salt Lake City. Supported by a state tax incentive and aimed at boosting U.S. snack production, the plant is expected to bring 230 jobs to the area and produce one billion bars annually. [KSL]
Toxic Algae Found in Jordan River
The Salt Lake County Health Department has issued a warning advisory for parts of the Jordan River and nearby canals due to a harmful algal bloom linked to the ongoing bloom in Utah Lake. The river remains open, but officials urge caution, advising against swimming, drinking the water, or allowing pets near it. [Salt Lake County Health Department]
