What's CITY Talking About?
New Consideration in Menzies Execution
Utah is set to execute death row inmate Ralph Menzies by firing squad on Sept. 5. But a Utah judge just agreed to consider a mental health reevaluation. It’s federal law that a person must be mentally competent when executed. [KUER]
- It makes us uncomfortable, too: We talked about the death penalty with someone who witnessed Utah’s most recent execution. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Don’t Fall for the DMV Text Scam
PSA: If you received a text from someone posing as the Utah Dept. of Motor Vehicles and claiming you have an outstanding traffic ticket, don't respond or click on the link! Salt Lake City Transportation says the DMV will never request payment via text. [Instagram]
Library Renovations Continue
Salt Lake City’s Main Library is in the second phase of its major renovation, focusing on the "Crescent Wall” staircase and adjacent rooftop areas, leading to additional closures through next summer. The $7 million project is funded by the library’s savings with no added cost to taxpayers. [KSL]

How Utah Changed Its Tune on Public Lands
Utah Republicans are hell-bent on taking control of our public lands. But nearly 100 years ago, federal management of those lands was actually a Utah idea! Why did the state change its tune on the issue? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Salt Lake’s Best New Restaurants and Bars

Lots of new openings in Salt Lake this month, from ramen to taco trucks, and even an exciting comeback featuring the iconic Lion House rolls 👀
UT Craft Ramen
Utah has been booming with new ramen restaurants lately including UT Craft Ramen in Midvale. They’re celebrating their grand opening this Friday and Saturday (Aug. 1-2) with an exclusive ramen made with A5 wagyu flown in from Japan.
Strada by Matteo
An Italian lunch spot by the people behind Matteo in Downtown Salt Lake City. Try their paninis or mix-and-match pastas. They also offer beer and wine.
Trakos HDSPM
A taco truck tucked inside a parking lot in Kearns (4095 Sam’s Blvd.) that I found courtesy of my TikTok feed. The lines get long so be sure to get there early to secure some carnitas.

Dead Moon Coffee
Find this coffee trailer/vintage clothing rack at 2224 S. 600 E., conveniently located along the S-Line Trax/bike path.
The Garden Restaurant
The Garden Restaurant, formerly Nauvoo Cafe, has reopened inside the Joseph Smith Memorial Building after being closed for two and half years for renovations. Even better, they brought back the beloved Lion House rolls. Consider this my official petition that they bring back Lion House pies, too.
