🌳 Parks with big tree energy
July 22, 2025 · Thanks to City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta for writing today’s parks article.
Hey, Salt Lake! Counting down the days until our 801 Day celebration on Friday, Aug. 1 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. One thing I’m most excited about is the Win Win Market. It’s run by expert curator Abbey Muse (formerly of Animalia and currently of Ani-mini-a). Here are some things you might find there:

What's CITY Talking About?
Fight for Public Lands
Utah is regrouping after three failed attempts this year to reclaim millions of acres of federally managed land, but state leaders like Sen. Mike Lee says they’re “just getting started” and plan to continue pushing for state management. [Salt Lake Tribune]
Utah Prison Running Club
Casey Vanderheuf, an inmate at Utah State Correctional Facility, organized the prison’s first half marathon and launched a broader running program aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being. His efforts helped 45 incarcerated men train for and complete the 13.1-mile race. [Utah News Dispatch]
Gym Lake City
Salt Lake City boasts 16 gyms per 100,000 residents, above the national average of 13.6. We also have more plastic surgeons per capita than Los Angeles. [Axios Salt Lake City]

A Hunting or Fishing License to Hike?
