🧐 What even is Pioneer Day?
July 21, 2025 · Thanks to City Cast editor Adrian González for writing today’s Pioneer Day article.
Hey, Salt Lake! Have you ever tried omakase? It’s a Japanese dining experience that means, “I leave it up to you.” Post Office Place is hosting a series of omakase nights in August with chefs Brendan Kawakami, Brice Okubo, and Takashi Gibo (as in the acclaimed Takashi restaurant in SLC). Sign up before they sell out! 🍣

What's CITY Talking About?

New Flights Out of Provo
Breeze Airways is adding six new routes from Provo Airport starting March 2026, including direct or one-stop flights to cities like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Eugene. It’ll also be the first-ever connection to Arcata-Eureka, California (aka The Redwoods) from a Utah airport. [KSL]

85 Texas Rescue Cats Arrive in Utah
After the deadly floods in Texas, 85 rescued cats (many of them kittens) were flown to Best Friends Animal Society in Sugar House for care and adoption. This effort aims to clear space in Texas shelters so lost pets can stay local and potentially reunite with their families. [KSL]
Firing Squad Execution
Utah is preparing to execute death row inmate Ralph Menzies by firing squad on Sept. 5, marking the state’s first use of the method in over 15 years. [Utah News Dispatch]

Statewide Trail Network
Hate getting stuck in I-15 traffic? Utah is inching closer toward building a network of paved trails that connect the entire state, so someday you may be able to bike from Logan to St. George. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
