🥕 What’s new at the Downtown Farmers Market?
May 28, 2025 · — Adrian González
Good morning! It’s City Cast editor Adrian González filling in for Terina today.
I’ll admit that farmers market season is the time of year when my tote bag collection shame begins to subside. If you also suffer from moderate to severe tote-itis, you’ll love today’s segment on Salt Lake farmers markets — more on that later.

What's CITY Talking About?
Salt Lake Policing Reforms Face Political Tension
The city’s Racial Equity in Policing Commission has effected some change since the murder of George Floyd in 2020; the latest report says the Salt Lake City Police Department has implemented 75% of the commission’s recommendations. But there’s growing concern that state laws targeting DEI initiatives could hinder progress. [KUER]
Canadians Are Ghosting Us
Rising political tensions and economic uncertainty under the Trump administration are leading foreign travelers to forego trips to the U.S., and it’s beginning to take a toll on Utah’s tourism revenue. Canadians accounted for 40% of foreign tourists to Utah in 2023 — French travelers were a far-second at 7% — local businesses are already seeing a decline in bookings from our neighbors to the north. [Salt Lake Tribune]
A Mammoth Win for Team USA
Four Utah Mammoth players on Team USA’s hockey team secured a gold medal after the team defeated Switzerland to win its first World Championship since 1933. Utah’s Logan Cooley was credited with the assist that won the game in overtime. [KSL Sports]

Is the Honeybee a Utah Villain?
The good news: We saved the honeybees. The bad news: It may have come at the expense of Utah's native pollinators. What's the economic case for saving local bees, and how can Salt Lakers help? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
