What's CITY Talking About?
Voters Likely to Decide Union Law
Utah labor unions have successfully qualified a referendum for the 2026 ballot to repeal HB267, a law banning collective bargaining for public employees. Opposition groups still have time to convince Utahns to remove their signatures, but if the numbers hold, the law will be paused until voters decide its fate in next year’s election. Hundreds of Utahns To Lose Rental Assistance
By the end of 2026, at least 281 Utahns could face eviction as federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act are projected to run out. [Utah News Dispatch]
A Big Weekend for Scammers
Salt Lake was hit with not one but two shocking headlines about scammers recently. One targeted a local liquor store, and the other — a Sandy man — allegedly smuggled $300 million worth of oil into the U.S. from Mexico. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
