320K Signatures for Union Referendum

The Protect Utah Workers coalition delivered more than 320,000 signatures to county clerks yesterday, far surpassing the state's requirement of about 141,000. The massive haul will almost certainly send a law that eliminates collective bargaining for public sector labor unions to the ballot in 2026. Now, opponents have 45 days to campaign for Utahns to remove their signatures. The state will verify each signature by June 21. [Hey Salt Lake]

This effort is on track to be the most successful citizen-led referendum in Utah history and that’s no small feat. Utah has some of the most restrictive laws in the country surrounding referenda.

Movie Night Gone Wild

Screenings of the “Minecraft” movie are turning chaotic with the viral “chicken jockey” trend. In Heber, a group of teens were escorted out after rowdy behavior and popcorn fights. In Provo, someone even brought a live chicken. [KPCW, KSL]
