⏰ Ending 'spring forward' and 'fall back?'

January 27, 2025

Good morning! The Wasatch Co-op, Salt Lake City’s first co-operative food market, is looking for volunteers to help with events and tabling opportunities.

What's CITY Talking About?

Home, Private, and Charter Schools

The state has implemented a program offering eligible parents $8,000 in taxpayer-funded vouchers if they choose to pull their kids out of public school. Meanwhile, Utah has stopped publicly reporting how many students are home schooled. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Utah Targets College Funding

Utah lawmakers plan to cut $60.5 million from public higher education budgets, reallocating funds toward high-demand, high-wage programs. Schools, including the University of Utah and Utah State University (which face the larger cuts), can petition to reclaim portions of the funding by aligning with state priorities over a three-year adjustment period. Look Up in the Sky

A planetary alignment will light up the night sky throughout January, and it’s visible to the naked eye. The “planetary parade,” featuring Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, is best viewed 45 minutes after sunset on clear evenings. Planets will have a steady glow instead of the twinkle of a star.
