Good morning! One of my favorite parts of this job is curating local events.
Charles Barkley once said we were a “boring-a** city,” and I, respectfully, disagree. There’s always something going on no matter what your interest. Just this week, we had an Artist Run Club which is a group that meets to look at art and then run a 5K — a very cool-a** thing.

Gerrymandering Lawsuit Update
A lot of Utah races weren’t competitive in 2024, and the plaintiffs in a lawsuit over the 2020 districting process would tell you it’s because so much of our state is “gerrymandered,” with districts hand-drawn by the Utah legislature. The coalition of voters is expected to win. Then what? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
$50M for the GSL
Utah has received $50 million from the Bureau of Reclamation to support efforts to restore the Great Salt Lake. The funding, announced in a press release by the Utah Department of Natural Resources, will support water delivery programs and ecosystem restoration. [City Cast Salt Lake]

Does Utah’s DABS Commission Actually Drink?
Most members of Utah’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services Commission (responsible for regulating alcohol sales) report that they drink — a contrast to Utah’s largely non-drinking Legislature. In 2021, the Salt Lake Tribune noted that 89% of the Legislature are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a religion that believes in abstaining from alcohol. [FOX 13]
