Happy Friday! It’s the weekend before Thanksgiving and I (predictably) still don’t have plans. If you’re in the same boat, we have a list of restaurants that will be open on Thanksgiving Day below. But first, the news.

New Maestro In Town
After over a year of searching, the Utah Symphony has found its new musical director. German conductor and composer Markus Poschner will start full-time in 2027 but is in town this weekend to conduct Beethoven. A Power Struggle for Lower Electric Rates
Utah lawmakers are urging Rocky Mountain Power to split from its parent company, PacifiCorp, amid frustrations over rising electricity rates. RMP says the move would be costly and politically fraught across the six states PacifiCorp services but promised to explore the break up. No deadline was set for a plan. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Outdoor Rec is Growing
Utah’s outdoor recreation economy reached $9.5 billion in 2023, contributing 3.4% to state GDP and supporting 72,000 jobs, according to a study from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis. Winter sports are still king, but bicycling grew 43% from the previous year. 2022 broke records, too. [Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation, KPCW]
