City Cast Salt Lake
📮Your ballot is en route
October 15, 2024 · Francisco Kilgore
Good morning, Salt Lake! Terina is out today. So I get to be the one to ask: Did you shop at the new Trader Joe's in Sugar House over the weekend?? Thanks to Bryant Heath for this photo from the opening. The real question is: What are your go-to snacks from Trader Joe's? 👀

What's CITY Talking About?
High Fertility, Low Insurance
Despite the state’s relatively high fertility rate, Utah also has the second-highest percentage of uninsured pregnant patients in the country. That means Utahns are part of a national trend of pregnant women not getting the care that they need, often because they just can’t afford it. [Axios Salt Lake City]

Jordan River Trail Problems
The Jordan River Trail near the Utah State Fairpark remains closed due to public safety concerns. But when did the lush stretch of the river in SLC become more of a liability than an asset? And what solutions are on the table? The City Cast Salt Lake podcast explores the situation in the first of a three-part series with the Salt Lake Tribune. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

So Long, Stanza
The Salt Lake City local favorite, Stanza, permanently closed its doors over the weekend. The Italian restaurant was known for its house-made pastas and its talent in the kitchen. [Gastronomic]
No Arena After All?
After last week’s PGA Tour, Black Desert has reversed course on their plan to build a $2 billion sports arena. First, that’s $200 million more than what the NHL/MLB stadium projects asked for. Second, they’re already building a boardwalk and waterpark. The new arena might have to wait. [Salt Lake Tribune]
