🍽 Where to eat this month
October 2, 2024
Hey, Salt Lake! Do you have a running note in your phone of new restaurants to try? If so, we’ve got some great additions for you below.

What's CITY Talking About?
43-Foot Trump
A giant nude statue of Donald Trump appeared along I-15 in Utah near Las Vegas. The piece is called “Crooked and Obscene” and will travel across the U.S. to each swing state. [FOX 13]
The Crumbl Cookie Controversy Down Under
Crumbl Cookies, a Utah chain, went viral after an unauthorized pop-up event in Sydney, Australia. The event organizers purchased the cookies in the U.S., flew them to Australia, and sold them for $17.50 a pop. Many customers were left disgruntled after waiting in a long line for stale cookies. Affordable Homeownership
A new housing development in the Guadalupe neighborhood, Project Open 3, aims to offer affordable homeownership options through a mix of missing middle housing like townhomes and condos. The homes will be sold at prices affordable to those earning no more than 80% of the area median income, helping lower-income residents build equity. [Building Salt Lake]

Hockey 101
Not a sports guy? We hear you. But the dark side of the National Hockey League is fascinating. As SLC becomes a hockeytown, we explore the culture this game will bring to our doorsteps — from "bare knuckle boxing on ice" to hazing. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Salt Lake’s Best New Restaurants and Bars

Welcome to our rolling list of all the best, new restaurants opening around Salt Lake!
October 2024
This month’s food spots range from fine dining to casual comfort, and everything in between (can you say cheeto sushi?).
Aker
An upscale Japanese/Latin fusion restaurant located on Exchange Place in downtown Salt Lake City (formerly Maxwell’s). Some standouts on their menu are the tuna crudo with blueberry habanero jam, wagyu gyoza, and a whole branzino cooked in a salt bed. This goes without saying, but, save room for lava cake.
Gary’s Asian Bistro
A Chinese restaurant in Millcreek opened by much-loved chef Gary Lee, formerly of Asian Star. The menu features honey nectar pork, sesame chicken, and a lot of gluten-free and vegetarian options.
Kiki’s Plate Lunch
This food truck in Bountiful serves up Hawaiian comfort food like loco moco (white rice, meat, gravy, and a fried egg), katsu or kalua pork sandwiches, or your classic lunch plate with meat, mac salad, and rice. Don’t forget to grab a spam musubi and a Hawaiian Sun to wash it all down.
Fresh Sushi & Boba Tea
Another stop in Bountiful for sushi and boba, always a winning combo. If you’re feeling crazy, try their cheetos roll.
