SLC’s Microshelter Community
Utah’s Office of Homeless Services opened another Microshelter Community in west Salt Lake City to house up to 50 people experiencing homelessness this winter. The second location follows a successful pilot program in 2023 and funding from the Legislature. [FOX 13]

Ammunition Vending Machines
Vending machines selling ammunition will soon be introduced in Colorado, Nevada, and Utah. American Rounds, the company behind the machines, uses AI technology to verify buyers are over 21. Critics worry that making ammunition more accessible will only exacerbate gun violence. [KUER]
Wandering Cops
The National Police Index now tracks police employment history in Utah in order to flag “wandering cops”: Officers who hop to another department to continue policing when fired or investigated for misconduct at their current agency. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
Hockey 🤝 Beer
Salt Lake City’s Epic Brewing Company created a special beer, Hip Check Ice, to celebrate the Utah Hockey Club (the state’s first National Hockey League team). It’ll be released on Friday, Oct. 4 at the brewery. On Tuesday, Oct. 8, ESPN 700 radio will broadcast from Epic during the first regular season hockey game. [Salt Lake Tribune]
