What's CITY Talking About?

Overcrowding at the “Mighty Five”

Governor Spencer Cox signed a letter asking the federal government for help managing crowds at Utah’s national parks. Tourism at the “mighty five” has surged post-pandemic, with Zion National Park accommodating 4.6 million visitors last year. This fall, experience national park magnificence in the equally-stunning but low-key wilderness that surrounds them, instead. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

More Restaurant Closures

After 13 years in business, Pig & a Jelly Jar has closed its Salt Lake City and Ogden locations. So have 98K Fried Chicken in South Salt Lake, known for its Korean fried chicken, and Taco Taco in downtown Salt Lake City. [Gastronomic SLC]

Why the Lack of Bus Benches on the West Side?

Despite promises from the Utah Transit Authority to install 30 benches at bus stops on the west side of Salt Lake City, only nine have been installed, reflecting a broader disparity between bus stop amenities on the city’s east and west sides. UTA cited funding, ADA compliance, and safety concerns as factors slowing progress, while residents continue to advocate for better resources. [KUER]

Where Is It?

Big Tobacco, eh? (Emily Means/City Cast Salt Lake)

Shoutout to Missy G. for knowing the location and meaning of this sign. It’s located on the Atlas Architects building at Central 9th, next to Bar Nohm, and it’s apparently a nickname of one of the founders (who shall not be named ;)).

Move over, Stonehenge, we have a rock formation of our own. Do you know where this veterans’ monument is?
