What's CITY Talking About?

The End of a Drive-In-Movie Era

Despite opposition, the West Valley City Council voted to rezone the Redwood Drive-in Theatre and Swap Meet from commercial to residential. The decision to sell the land for housing development will leave vendors displaced. Residents also argued that the development will be unaffordable for most of the community. [FOX 13]

On Your Ballot: Erin Rider

Push for Housing on Public Lands

In Southwest Utah, there’s a push to convert federal public land into housing due to the growing population. While lawmakers have introduced bills to facilitate these land sales, local experts argue that not all public land is suitable for development, citing infrastructure challenges and environmental risks. Waffle Recall

Park City-based company Kodiak Cakes is recalling over 7,000 boxes of its “Kodiak Protein-Packed Power Waffles, Buttermilk & Vanilla,” due to the possible presence of soft plastic film. [ABC 4]

We had a Hey Salt Lake reader looking for a restaurant for corporate dinners, and you all delivered with the recs! It had to be:

✅ Big enough for around 25 people

✅ Nice, but not too expensive

Don’t Sleep on Sandy/Draper

“We host corporate dinners on a pretty regular basis. We've had a lot of success working with a couple of different restaurants that have been super easy to work with and are able to hold a larger group, but don't break the bank. Our office is in Draper, hence the several Sandy locations, but I hope this helps whoever is working on coordinating the dinner: Scelto, Market Street Grill, Eight Settlers Distillery, and Cultivate Craft Kitchen.” — Caroline K.

“It’s in Draper but I do like the Cliff Dining Pub or you could go to a Toscano’s.” — Alexandra P.

Cottage Dining

“Provisions has a separate cottage on site for group dining that might fit those requirements.” — Susan D.

Red Iguana: The Sequel

“The answer is Red Iguana 2. My son-in-law had his graduation dinner there with 30 people. They have a separate room for events and large groups. They were really accommodating and the atmosphere was cozy and the price was reasonable.” — Eliana D.

Keeping it Downtown

“Squatters Pub Brewery downtown has an area called the potting shed in the back that can host bigger crowds without paying a private event fee. They do have private event spaces upstairs, but those tend to cost.

"Wasatch Brew Pub in Sugar House has an upstairs area that could probably be used for the group of 25 if not being used for events. Food is really good and the price is very reasonable for restaurants these days. But I might be biased because I work there.” — Rick S.
