City Cast Salt Lake
🏜 A guide to your next desert getaway
August 28, 2024
Hey, Salt Lake! Do you have memories of the world map at the old SLC airport? Well, it’s making a comeback. More on that below.
What's CITY Talking About?
Utah’s Public Lands Beef
Utah officials are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to determine if the federal government should continue to manage the state’s 18.5 million acres of “unappropriated” land. Not national parks, but the Bureau of Land Management areas where you find dispersed camping. The state is presenting a united front, with slick ads and a .gov website, but one conservation group calls it propaganda. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
Historic Airport Map Restored
A beloved 64-year-old world map from the old Salt Lake City airport will be in the new facility, near the entrance to Concourse B. After a complex extraction and preservation process, the map will be unveiled alongside other art installations when the new central tunnel opens on Oct. 22. [KSL]

New Pickleball Courts
Salt Lake City will open new pickleball courts (the first on SLC’s westside!) at Rosewood Park on Thursday, Sept. 5. Construction of Glendale Park begins Sept. 3, which includes converting half of the tennis courts into pickleball courts. [Salt Lake City]
SLC Eatery To Close
Sadly, SLC Eatery in the Ballpark neighborhood will close at the end of September. Show them some love in their final few weeks. Chefs Paul Chamberlain and Logen Crew were James Beard Awards Semifinalists in 2023. [@slceatery/Instagram, James Beard Awards]
