How your legislator used 'butthurt'
August 23, 2024 · — Ali Vallarta
Hey, Salt Lake! I’m City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta filling in for Terina today.
My new year’s resolution is to visit all 511 parks in Salt Lake County, and I’ve been sharing stellar finds along the way. Below, I’ve got photos to back up my new obsession with Murray Park — and her bathrooms!

What's CITY Talking About?

Utah Legislature Swears It’s ‘Not Butthurt’
The Utah Legislature used their emergency powers this week to pass three bills and put a constitutional amendment on November ballots. The question will ask voters to give the Legislature full power to repeal or revise voter initiatives. What kind of smackdown should we expect between now and Election Day? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
We’re not bringing forth this constitutional amendment because the Legislature is butthurt that maybe we might have to redraw maps.
New LDS Transgender Restrictions
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has expanded its restrictions on transgender members, barring them from roles involving children and limiting their participation in the church. Transgender members who undergo social, medical, or surgical transitions face potential bans from temple attendance, limitations on baptisms, and possible “annotations” on their records. [Axios SLC]
The Green Loop’s Hefty Price Tag
The Green Loop, Salt Lake City’s major park project, is estimated to cost between $250 million and $350 million, and will consist of a network of green spaces and multi use paths encircling downtown. And while the project has received support from City Council, there remain concerns about the route, maintenance, and construction. [Salt Lake Tribune]
