What's CITY Talking About?

$1.2 Billion on SLC Ballots
Get ready to ask your boss for a raise! Salt Lakers will vote on two huge bonds this November: Salt Lake County’s $507 million homelessness request and $730 million for the Salt Lake City School District to rebuild West and Highland High Schools. That’s more than $1 billion on your ballot this fall — but how much out of your actual wallet? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
The Future of the Fleet Block Murals
The Fleet Block murals on 800 S. and 300 W. in Salt Lake City, which commemorate individuals killed in police confrontations, are set for demolition. The artwork emerged in 2020, after the murder of George Floyd shaped a global Black Lives Matter movement. City officials plan to meet with family members of those depicted to discuss the future of the murals. [KSL]
Utah Unprepared for the “Big One”
The “Big One,” a massive earthquake, is predicted to hit Utah within the next 50 years, and our lawmakers just disbanded the state’s Seismic Safety Commission. Experts warn that without the commission, we may struggle to maintain safety measures that will mitigate the catastrophic impacts. [Salt Lake Tribune]
