City Cast Salt Lake
🙌 The best of the DIY Festival
August 9, 2024 · Thanks to Ali Vallarta for editing Hey Salt Lake this week.
Hey, Salt Lake! What’s the best thing you’ve eaten recently? Asking for myself.
What's CITY Talking About?
Housing Shortage at the U of U
The University of Utah is facing a dorm shortage, leaving many students without housing. Despite the university’s guarantee to give housing to all who applied by June 5, around 100 freshmen remain on the waitlist just two weeks before the semester begins. [Salt Lake Tribune]
Perseid Meteor Shower
Head to one of Utah’s many dark sky parks to view the Perseid meteor shower. Peak viewing will happen right before dawn on Monday. [ABC 4]
The Little Train Plan That Could
The Rio Grande Plan is gaining momentum once more, with recent support from the Salt Lake County Council. What hurdles stand between the idea phase and actually burying the rails in downtown SLC? City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta and executive producer Emily Means are bringing you up to speed on this very big idea. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
Simone Biles in Utah
Olympic gold medalist and all-around baddie Simone Biles is headed to Utah for the “Gold Over America” tour at the Maverik Center on Sept. 23. It seems like only yesterday she was posing for pics at SLC’s own Eggs in the City. [FOX 13]

Transforming Lives and Communities Through Education
SLCC graduates are hard workers and smart decision-makers. 81% graduate with no or little debt. They opted for a school where they are in a class of 20 not 100—It’s nice when a teacher knows your name. Did we mention trailblazers? Almost half are first-generation students. Look for that on a résumé.
