Navajo Nation Blocks Uranium Transport

Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren wants to stop a truck transporting uranium through the tribe’s reservation. The truck was moving from the Pinyon Plain Mine in Arizona to the White Mesa Mill in Utah. Nygren objected to the transportation, as it endangers members of the tribe, and vowed to stop future shipments. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Hey Salt Lake readers are chiming in on the Olympics, best pools, and questionable casseroles.

On Mormon Food

Who knew funeral potatoes were so polarizing?

“Funeral potatoes are the best. Frog-eyed salad, weirdly delicious.” — Kristin G.

“I know this is cliché, but I still cannot get my head around funeral potatoes. Especially the ones that are made with mayonnaise and sour cream and Cheese Whiz — disgusting! Shortly after I moved here, I was asked to bring a pan of potatoes to a funeral. I mentioned I had a great recipe for scalloped potatoes and was told I had to follow the 'official funeral recipe,' which included the above ingredients. Never again! If I want to contribute, I'll bring cookies instead.” — Alison T.

On the 2034 Winter Olympics in SLC

Where will you be 10 years from now?

“Our son, who will be 25 (!!) in 2034, has made us promise that we won’t leave because he plans to volunteer during the Games. I am excited! I moved here in 2003 and was always sad I had missed them by just a year.” — Kate R.

On Best Salt Lake Pools

We heart parks.

“We've spent most of the week at the Murray Park outdoor pool. It's really great. They have a slide, large shallow part for younger kids, and it’s tucked into the scenery of Murray Park (one of my very favorites). Just wanted to share if you're looking to add to your list.” — Brianna M.

3 Big Ideas for the 801

Salt Lake City is full of big dreams, from sports stadiums to citywide bike trails to building a new regional park. But what inspiration can we take from our neighbors? In honor of 801 Day — celebrating Utah’s original area code — Millcreek Mayor Jeff Silvestrini joins host Ali Vallarta to share three game-changing ideas for his town that other cities in the 801 should steal.

See you soon!
