💬 'Star Wars' composer enters Abravanel Hall chat
July 19, 2024 · Thanks to Ali Vallarta for editing Hey Salt Lake this week.
Hey, Salt Lake! Today, we’ve got a roundup of local yarn stores. I’m curious, what’s your favorite small business in Salt Lake? It can be any type of shop!
What's CITY Talking About?
John Williams Joins Abravanel Hall Fight
Academy Award-winning composer John Williams (“Star Wars,” “Harry Potter”) penned a letter urging Salt Lake County to “preserve and protect” Abravanel Hall. The taxpayer-built venue and home of the Utah Symphony is in the crosshairs of Smith Entertainment Group’s plans for a new sports and entertainment district in downtown Salt Lake City. Williams’ letter brings a new level of celebrity to the negotiation between Salt Lake County, SEG, and preservationists. [City Cast Salt Lake]
Water-Saving Grass
Utah has approved hybrid Bermuda grass, a type of grass that can go weeks without irrigation and could help conserve water. It was previously banned due to its invasive cousin, common Bermuda grass, but researchers from Brigham Young University and Utah State University helped petition for its approval. [ABC 4]

Real Salt Lake Player Suspended
Cristian “Chico” Arango, a Real Salt Lake forward, was suspended for violating the soccer team’s anti-harassment policy. Specific details of his violation have not been disclosed, but Arango will miss the next three games. Currently, Real Salt Lake is tied for the top position in the Western Conference with LAFC and the LA Galaxy. [FOX 13]
Business As Usual
We’re hashing out two local business mysteries: What’s up with the Training Table and The Front? Plus, don’t miss the estate sale of the century and a new 9-Line on 700 East. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
