The Utah legislature laid the groundwork for a potential Major League Baseball stadium by forming the Utah Fairpark Area Investment and Restoration District, with a board to govern the area. The district aims to raise $900 million through local taxes to fund the stadium in SLC’s west side neighborhood. Except, the board’s chair is from Box Elder County. [Utah News Dispatch]

Reforming Services for Utahns With Disabilities

The U.S. Department of Justice is threatening legal action if Utah doesn’t improve its vocational services for people with disabilities. Currently, many programs in Utah place workers with disabilities in segregated jobs, doing repetitive tasks, paid below minimum wage. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Salt Lake Tribune employees announced a unionization effort: The Salt Lake News Guild. Over 70% of newsroom staff signed a letter to management asking for voluntary recognition of the union before Friday, July 19.
