Toxic Waste

In 2022, Kennecott’s Bingham Canyon Mine, located west of Salt Lake City, released 132.4 million pounds of toxic chemicals into the environment. The mine ranked third highest for toxic releases out of 90 mines in the U.S. The toxins include lead, arsenic, selenium, and mercury which can cause serious health issues. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Utah Officials Head to Paris

A group of high-profile athletes and Utah officials are headed to Paris to present their case for hosting the 2034 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The group will include Gov. Spencer Cox, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall, and Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn. [Utah News Dispatch]
