The Housing Market Cools

The weather may be hot, but Salt Lake City’s housing market is cooling down faster than the national average. The Salt Lake metro area saw a 5% decrease in homes sold within two weeks compared to a 3% drop across the U.S. [Salt Lake Axios]

Latest on the Book Ban Law

With Utah’s “sensitive materials” law in effect, the Utah State Board of Education will now compile a list of books that must be removed from all public schools if at least three school districts (or two districts and five charter schools) report the same book as “pornographic or indecent.” Districts will be notified by Aug. 5 of which books need to be removed and disposed of. The books cannot be sold or redistributed. [KUER]

Deer Springs Wildfire

The largest wildfire in Utah, the Deer Springs Fire, has burned almost 12,000 acres. As of Tuesday, July 9, it was at 0% containment in rural Kane County near Bryce Canyon National Park. No evacuations have been ordered. [ABC 4]
