What's CITY Talking About?

Sports District Details

Salt Lake City released a 136-page document outlining plans for the downtown sports, entertainment, cultural, and convention district. As the City Council prepares to vote on the proposal, how can residents have a say? Plus, if Abravanel Hall is under construction, where will the Utah Symphony go? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Party Like It’s 2002

Salt Lake City is waiting with bated breath to be officially named the host city of the 2034 Winter Olympics. On July 24 (yes, Pioneer Day), there will be a “pajama party” at 3 a.m. on the steps of the Salt Lake City and County Building to watch the International Olympic Committee’s live announcement. Lyman Sues for Signatures

Republican gubernatorial candidate Phil Lyman has filed a lawsuit against Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, seeking access to signatures gathered for Gov. Spencer Cox’s GOP primary campaign. Lyman alleges improprieties in the signature-collection process, despite the Davis County Clerk validating the signatures. Unofficial results show Cox beat Lyman with 54% of the vote. [FOX 13]

Heat Wave Incoming

Various Utah cities, including SLC, are projected to see triple-digit temperatures this week due to a heat wave. Heat maps show that urbanization, like tall buildings and heavy traffic, can contribute to higher temperatures in cities. [KUER]

Sports District Vote, Alt Symphony Venues, and Heatwave Help

The Salt Lake City Council plans to take its first big vote on the downtown sports and entertainment district Tuesday. Executive producer Emily Means and producer Ivana Martinez examine the proposal and how residents could still get involved in the process. Plus, alternative venues for the Utah Symphony, a heatwave volunteer opportunity, and a fun (if you can believe it) government Instagram account to follow.

Stay cool.
