What's CITY Talking About?

Sports District Deal

The Salt Lake City Council received a big update Tuesday evening on a project that could reshape Salt Lake City for future generations. We're breaking down the details of the deal between the city and the Smith Entertainment Group for the downtown sports and entertainment district. How does it benefit Salt Lakers? Evaporation at the Great Salt Lake

Hot, dry conditions are causing the Great Salt Lake levels to drop, after an elevation bump from spring runoff. However, experts say the dip is normal for this time of year, and lake levels will likely rebound in the fall. Efforts continue to conserve water and reduce upstream diversions to help stabilize the lake. [Great Salt Lake Collaborative]

Open Streets Returns in July

The pedestrian-only event on Salt Lake City’s Main Street, Open Streets, will reopen for two weekends in July (July 12 to 13 and July 19 to 20). It will feature live entertainment and sidewalk dining. In the long term, the city is assessing the possibility of a permanent pedestrian-only section in downtown. [ABC 4]
