The Fight To Pay Teachers More
Utah elementary teacher John Arthur testified at a U.S. Senate Committee hearing on the challenges public school teachers face, highlighting low pay as a major reason teachers leave the profession. A massive 86% of K-12 public schools nationwide reported difficulties hiring teachers in the 2023-2024 school year. [Utah News Dispatch]

Sundance Film Festival in Boulder, CO?
Colorado is coming for the Sundance Film Festival. A coalition in Boulder submitted a proposal to host the festival starting in 2027. The Sundance Institute is considering new locations as their contract with Park City expires in 2026. [FOX 13]

U of U LGBT Resource Center Closing
The University of Utah’s LGBT Resource Center announced its closure, after 21 years of service, following Utah’s bill restricting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in state schools. Other resource centers at the university have closed and will be integrated into the Office of Student Affairs. It’s unclear if the LGBT Resource Center will be similarly integrated. Rocky Mountain Power Betting On Coal
Utah’s largest electricity provider, Rocky Mountain Power, is reversing course on its renewable energy plans and going all in on coal.
