What Will Happen to Japantown?

The Salt Lake City Council is about to vote on a citywide 0.5% sales tax increase to fund a new sports and entertainment district downtown. The project will affect various landmarks, including Abravanel Hall, the Salt Palace, and historic Japantown. Could this mean the end of Japantown, or will the proposal help save it? Redwood Drive-In Decision Gets Delayed

West Valley City officials delayed a decision on the future of the Redwood Drive-In and swap meet last week after three hours of public comment. Around 300 supporters, including vendors, attended to oppose a rezoning proposal by EDGE Homes to convert the site into housing. The planning commission voted 3-2 against the proposal.
