Ryan Smith’s Rezoning Proposal, Denied

The Salt Lake City Planning Commission unanimously rejected Smith Entertainment Group’s proposed zoning changes for the sports and entertainment district around the Delta Center. Since the Planning Commission’s vote is only advisory, the final decision rests with the City Council. They have until Sept. 1 to approve or deny SEG’s proposals. [Building Salt Lake]

Potential Team Base Camp For World Cup

Our city is going gaga over sports right now! Salt Lake City is a Team Base Camp candidate for the 2026 World Cup, where teams will stay, train, and travel from. SLC will not host games. The University of Utah and Real Salt Lake Training Center are among 20 potential Team Base Camps nationwide. The World Cup will be from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and will be hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. [KSL]

U of U Spends $38M for a Downtown Campus

The University of Utah is purchasing the City Centre along 400 South, which is near the library and City Hall, to consolidate various university offices into one space. The 10-story building will also host classes and gaming programs. [Salt Lake Tribune]
