What's CITY Talking About?

State to Launch Anti-DEI Hotline

Utah introduced a new hotline this week to report violations of its anti-DEI law in government offices, which will be official after July 1. Utah State Auditor John Dougall, tasked with overseeing the hotline, supports the measure. He argues that DEI initiatives can promote discrimination. This contrasts with his approach to managing the hotline for Utah’s bathroom bill, where he criticized the process and received thousands of hoax complaints. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Utah’s James Beard Snub

The 2024 James Beard Award winners were announced on Monday, and none of the Utah nominees made the cut. We were robbed if you ask me! Sadly, that still means no James Beard Awards or Michelin stars for our restaurants and chefs. [James Beard Foundation]

Little Libraries in SLC

Utah Trail Network

The first set of projects was just funded, which begs the question: Is the Utah Department of Transportation falling out of love with cars? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Utah’s Brand New, Statewide Trail Network

The Utah Department of Transportation will connect our entire state with a network of paved trails, and the first 19 projects have already been funded to the tune of $95 million. City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta asks UDOT Trails Division director Stephanie Tomlin if this signals a statewide shift away from car-centric commuting — and when can we ride our bikes from Park City to St. George?

Bikers gonna bike.
