Another Starbucks Petitions To Unionize

Starbucks workers in South Jordan have petitioned to unionize, and if successful, they’ll be the sixth unionized Starbucks in the state. Utah has one of the lowest rates of union participation in the country. About 4% of our workforce is represented by unions compared to the national rate of about 10%. Among other things, Starbucks workers are seeking better compensation and work conditions. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Ogden Seeks To Block Apartments in Commercial Zones

Ogden officials have introduced an ordinance that would restrict new apartment buildings in certain commercial zones, favoring for-sale housing instead. Ogden’s new mayor, Ben Nadolski expressed a need for diverse housing options that include family homes for first-time buyers. Historically, commercial zones have been popular with developers for multi-family housing. [Building Salt Lake]

The Redwood Drive-In is under threat of a rezone that would convert the theater and swap-meet to a housing complex.
