Hey, Salt Lake! Summers are for staying out late and then eating pancakes at diners with your buds. Do you have a favorite diner in the city?

What's CITY Talking About?

Utah Jazz Rebrand
It seems the theme of the week is new sports branding as the Utah Jazz come in hot with a fresh new(ish) look (again). The mountains are back and the franchise will move away from the unpopular highlighter yellow color in 2025-26. The updated uniforms will make their debut next season. [City Cast Salt Lake]

West Valley Performing Arts Center Will Stay Open
Good news! The West Valley Performing Arts Center will remain open. It was announced last month that the theater would close due to costly repairs and poor revenue. But the West Valley City Council unanimously voted to transfer the city-owned performance space to an independent organization in order to ensure its continuation. The city will provide an initial subsidy and the new organization will manage the theater’s operation. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Baby Bear in Marmalade
There was a baby bear in a tree in the Marmalade neighborhood yesterday, causing a temporary closure of Reed Ave. While crews were attempting to set up a safety net, the bear fell. It was then tranquilized and transported in a cage to be evaluated by wildlife biologists. Wishing the bear a speedy recovery. [@slcpd/X]

Why No Michelin Star Restaurants in Utah?
Two Salt Lake chefs are finalists for the 2024 James Beard Awards, and winners will be announced on June 10. But when it comes to the prestigious Michelin star, the travel award often associated with culinary excellence, Utah restaurants haven’t made the cut. Host Ali Vallarta asks food writer and Gastronomic SLC founder Stuart Melling why we haven’t received the blessing and what area restaurants should be on Michelin’s short list.

Currently dreaming of patio dining.
