🌳 The ultimate SLC parks quest
June 4, 2024 · Thanks to Ali Vallarta for editing and writing portions of the newsletter.
Good morning! We’ve got a park-centric newsletter for you today brought to you by City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta. She’s taking on a huge project that’s a tremendous resource on Salt Lake County's neighborhood parks. Find out more below.

What's CITY Talking About?

SLC’s Two-Story Liquor Store Now Open
The long-awaited liquor store on the corner of 300 S. and historic Edison Street in downtown Salt Lake City is open for business! It boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, ready-cold beer, a decent wine selection, and a display of Edison Street artifacts. Unfortunately, no chilled wine or Sunday hours. Could the design itself signal a new era for the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services? In rhythm with this opening, the downtown liquor store on 400 S. is now permanently closed. South Salt Lake Beautiful Yard
Do you or a neighbor have an award-worthy lawn in South Salt Lake? This year, South Salt Lake is focusing on rewarding water-efficient lawns. Three winners will be selected over the summer months, and they’ll each receive a $500 gift card to Home Depot. [South Salt Lake]
Historic Districts
Salt Lake City approved two new historic districts in Yalecrest to preserve older homes and maintain neighborhood character on the east bench of the city. A third district in Upper Yale is under consideration. Efforts now focus on extending historic district protections to the west side, where none currently exist. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Utah Poppies
Have you been out to see the Utah poppies yet? Well, time is running out! They only bloom for two weeks in Alpine, and there’s only about one week left. You’ll find them along the trail at Lambert Park, which will be marked with red flags. If you do miss the window, you may have better luck in northern Utah at the Mantua Poppy Field. [FOX 13]
