What's CITY Talking About?

More Construction Coming to Utah County

Utah transportation officials have allocated roughly $1.4 billion to major road projects in Utah County. This is due to rapid growth in the area and a strain on infrastructure. Among the projects, they’ll be converting 2100 N. in Lehi to a new freeway, extending the Mountain View Corridor, and adding flex lanes to Pioneer Crossing. Construction is projected to start in 2027. [Deseret News]

Controversial Inland Port Project

The Utah Inland Port Authority approved a 9,000-acre project in a rural area in West Weber County. The development aims to create an industrial hub for advanced manufacturing and renewable energy. Residents have raised concerns about how this will change the rural landscape. Activists point to ecological damage as it’s located on some of the last remaining wetlands in northern Utah. Air Taxi

This week, the Utah Department of Transportation and Utah State University launched the state’s first air taxi using a Bell 505 helicopter. In the future, it could transport people and packages similar to Uber and Lyft. They operate out of vertiports, which are designated areas for aircrafts that could potentially be located on rooftops, parking lots, and traditional airports. Gov. Spencer Cox has already designated $1.9 million to be invested in aerial transportation. [FOX 13]
