💰 The annual dog-friendly patio list
May 13, 2024 · — Ali Vallarta
Happy new week! I’m City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta filling in for Terina Ria.
The city just posted a dream job: Director of the Gallivan Center (aka Salt Lake’s Living Room). Do you have a cool friend with great ideas, or is that you? Apply before May 15.

What's CITY Talking About?
School Lunch Debt
Utah families are saddled with $2.8 million in school lunch debt, an increase of $870,000 in unpaid bills from just last year. Nonprofit leaders attribute these soaring numbers to Utah’s larger food insecurity crisis, rising costs of living, and strict federal guidelines to qualify for free or reduced school lunch. [FOX 13]

Today on City Cast
What if we leveraged that to maximum positive outcomes? I get it. There's so much risk. I've been saying, there is no naive optimism. But there's also no operating from a place of fear. We have got to find that middle road that is rooted in our reality, the best information and make some best choices.
Raising Sales Tax, Juicy Texts, and More Sanctioned Camping?
The Salt Lake City Council is weighing everything from raising sales tax to razing city blocks; Big, controversial decisions that could change the look and feel of our city for decades. Council Chair Victoria Petro tells host Ali Vallarta how she’s making choices on our behalf with “cautious skepticism” — from the mayor’s $475 million budget proposal to the future of downtown.

Have a great week.
