University of Utah Commencement Disrupted
Pro-Palestine protesters demonstrated at the University of Utah’s commencement ceremony Thursday evening, capping off a week of friction between students and U. administrators. The student group Mecha organized a walk-out during President Taylor Randall’s speech to graduates after university police forcibly broke up a nonviolent rally and arrested more than a dozen protesters earlier in the week. According to Salt Lake Tribune reporter Courtney Tanner, law enforcement arrested another organizer outside the Huntsman Center, and a handful of students interrupted Randall’s address. Salt Lake County Waterway Advisory Lifted
A health advisory is now lifted for waterways in Sugar House, Hidden Hollow, and Parley’s Historic Nature parks. Last week, a semi truck carrying about 180 gallons of diesel fuel crashed, causing a fuel spill. The Salt Lake County Health Department issued the temporary health advisory to warn people to keep their pets away from contaminated creeks. Luckily, the spill didn’t affect drinking water since it occurred downstream from the water treatment plant. [KSL]
