What's CITY Talking About?

Will We Lose Jordan Clarkson?

As the Utah Jazz season ends, fan favorite Jordan Clarkson, the team’s longest-tenured player, could possibly leave the team. While he expressed love for the organization and the state, his age (32 this year) and reduced play time raise concerns about his future with the Jazz. Trader rumors have circulated, but finding a suitable deal has proven challenging due to Clarkson’s salary and performance. Still, no matter what happens, he’s cemented his place in the heart of Utah Jazz fans forever. [Salt Lake Tribune 🔒]

Megaplex Acquires PC’s Last Commercial Theater

The Larry H. Miller Company, which owns the Megaplex Theatres, has acquired Park City’s only remaining commercial theater, Redstone 8 Cinemas. Redstone was previously owned by a California-based corporation that filed for bankruptcy. Megaplex plans to renovate the 20-year-old cinema with essentially the Megaplex experience: lounge-style recliners and upgraded technology, decor, food, and beverages. [KPCW]

Reclassifying Cannabis

Marijuana might get a reclassification by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, from a Schedule 1 substance (high abuse potential, no accepted medical use) to a Schedule 3 substance (low abuse potential, recognized medical benefits). While the change won’t legalize recreational cannabis in Utah, it does benefit medical marijuana businesses with changes to tax regulations. And it could potentially mean more research into the benefits of the drug on conditions like chronic pain, PTSD, and cancer. [FOX 13]

Good Advice

Commencement ceremonies always bring about commencement speeches. But good advice is not just for high school and college graduates. The older we get, the more we could all use a good pep talk every spring. So, we brought Salt Lake Community College’s graduation speaker in for a local advice show. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Salt Lake Chatter

Hey Salt Lake readers are abuzz about everything from bread to bookstores.

📷 On the Billboard Wars

“I have a suggestion for the billboard wars. Japan or Korea, I can't remember which one off hand, has a technology where they mount small cameras to the side of skyscrapers to project a scene on the opposite side of the building making the skyscraper ‘disappear.’ They could use similar technology for billboards?” — Vedra R.

🍻 On Weekday Activities

“Trivia on Wednesdays and Bingo on Thursdays at 7 p.m. at Blue Gene’s! Free and fun prizes (you don’t have to drink to play).” — Lauren D.

🍕 On Best Gluten-Free Food

“Settebello has the best gluten-free pizza I’ve ever had. Nothing compares. It’s the first time I’ve had GF that’s not a glorified cracker.” — Francesca H.

“Don't forget about Marissa's Books. She moved into an old vehicle service garage. It's the bomb. I highly recommend people go check it out, plus you can sign up and get rewards. I mean who's gonna complain getting two dollars off their purchase?” — Sunshine C.
