Hey, Salt Lake! In today’s newsletter, we’re spotlighting a local business: Little Gay Garden.

What's CITY Talking About?

Utah GOP Selects Trump-Endorsed Candidate

Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs was selected as the Utah GOP’s nominee for U.S. Senate (Sen. Mitt Romney’s soon-to-be vacant seat). Staggs received significant support at the Republican party's 2024 nominating convention after receiving a glowing endorsement by Donald Trump. He still has to duke it out with more widely popular candidates in the primary election. [KUER]

More Trails, More Fun

Two new mountain biking-specific trails are coming to Salt Lake County’s Butterfield Canyon. Phase One of the expansion project opened over 13 miles of trails last August. The two new trails are about 30% complete and should open by summer. Improved equestrian access and the addition of a parking lot aims to increase recreation opportunities and alleviate congestion on existing trails. [KSL]

Native Ancestors Held in Utah Museum

According to ProPublica, the Natural History Museum of Utah has the 42nd highest amount (out of 600 federally funded institutions) of unrepatriated Native American ancestral remains in the U.S. Last year, the Biden administration revised the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) in order to expedite the return of Native remains and artifacts to Indigenous communities. The museum is working in collaboration with Indigenous communities to accelerate the repatriation process. [Salt Lake Tribune]
