💧 Guess Great Salt Lake's level
April 29, 2024
Good morning! What do you do for fun on a weekday night? I’m ready to heal my inner child and be out past curfew on a work night.
What's CITY Talking About?
The Bathroom Bill
A new law that requires students at Utah schools to use bathrooms that match their sex assigned at birth takes effect Wednesday, May 1. Now, school districts are tasked with explaining and implementing the controversial policy. ACLU of Utah is conducting an impact assessment survey to understand how the bathroom law affects the community. [KUTV, ACLU Utah]

Dynamite Heirloom
The Unified Fire Authority recently detonated dynamite found in a Holladay home. Officials identified about 50 dynamite sticks, around 40-80 years old, passed down by the homeowner’s father-in-law. While the Environmental Protection Agency removed most of the dynamite, a few were considered unstable, hence the need for detonation. The home was completely destroyed, and several nearby homes were damaged. [KSL]
She Is Risen
Can you guess how much the Great Salt Lake will rise from snow runoff? The person who is closest to guessing the peak elevation (without going over) and date will win a swag bag from the Department of Natural Resources. [Utah Department of Natural Resources]

Lessons From SLC’s First Legal Camp
Salt Lake City’s microshelter community — the state’s first ever legal camp for unhoused people — was set to close this week, but that’s no longer the plan. Host Ali Vallarta asks Switchpoint executive director Carol Hollowell what the future holds for the temporary site and its 50 residents and what lessons will carry over to the next version of the project.
Later.
