April 18, 2024

Good morning! In today’s newsletter, Hey Salt Lake readers are sharing their underrated brunch recs. But one reader notes: “I don't have a favorite brunch because I have yet to find a great Bloody Mary. Boozy brunches feel almost nonexistent ‘round these parts. Any suggestions?” — Amanda B.

RIP Sugar House Sizzler

It’s official: The Sugar House Sizzler has been knocked down. While we know a Kum & Go gas station won’t take its place, we wonder what will go there instead. [@slsees/Instagram, KSL]

Will Sundance Leave Utah?

The Sundance Film Festival, traditionally held in Park City, is considering a relocation starting in 2027. That’s when the festival’s contract with Park City is up for renewal. The announcement comes just weeks after the abrupt departure of Sundance Institute CEO Joana Vicente, who served for less than three years. Vicente spoke earlier this year about the cost and accessibility hurdles the festival faced in Park City. [Salt Lake Tribune]

“Jelly Roll! Happy it is indoors because last year I thought I might be killed at USANA.” — Veda L.

🧇 On Underrated Brunch

“Publik Kitchen [has] the best avocado toast. I know because I’ve tested it at lots of other places. Chicken salad melt is to die for and their French toast with chocolate chip bread, yum!” — Alison S.

“Huge breakfast and brunch fans here. We love Roux for brunch. Their flaky biscuits are fabulous, even though they are on the small size. They should come in twos! We call the blueberry pan cake at Bartolo’s a ‘table cake.’ Everyone orders their individual meals, then [we] order a blueberry pan cake to share; hence, a ‘table cake!’” — Judy

“Left Fork Grill! The best. The atmosphere is funky but the food, including specials and homemade pies, is outstanding. Try for a booth or sit at the counter.” — Virginia R.

“Picnic, a favorite spot. Great cafe featuring Publik Coffee!” — Sara S.

💘 On Lovebound Library

“Stopped in the most delightful store in the Maven District, Lovebound Library. I'm NOT a hopeless romantic (‘The Bachelor?’ Spare me.), but found something fun to read (I relate to middle-aged women and older) as per the clerk's recommendation. Check it out (no pun intended).” — Jane G.
