⏰ Register your kids for summer camp!
April 8, 2024
Good morning! Today, we’ve got a list of summer camps and activities for kids.

What's CITY Talking About?
Olympic Skiing Downtown
Salt Lake City’s venue plan for the 2034 Winter Olympics revealed compact, diverse locations from Provo to Park City. Notably, bringing a big air skiing and snowboarding ramp to downtown Salt Lake City. The competition would take place on scaffolding built on the Park Place parking lot (owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). [Salt Lake Tribune]

Rep. Maloy Backs Trump’s Deportation Agenda
In a recent interview, Rep. Celeste Maloy (R-UT) appeared to support Donald Trump’s plan for mass deportation if he’s re-elected president. She emphasized the need for more detention beds, aligning with Trump’s promises for mass military-style roundups. She joins other House Republicans in prioritizing aggressive border security measures. [Salt Lake Tribune]
Lehi Council Protects 900 Acres
The Lehi City Council decided to protect 900 acres of land on Traverse Mountain through a conservation easement. This ensures the land will remain undeveloped and free from mining. Additionally, Draper City was designated as a grantor to approve any alternative uses, preventing commercial exploitation by future city councils. [KUTV]

Why No Condos, SLC?
Construction cones and detours remind us that we are building everything in this city. But one thing we’re not building is condominiums aka apartments you can own. Many Salt Lakers would like to buy one, so why don’t we have more of them? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Where Is It?

Shoutout to everyone who correctly guessed the location of this Salt Lake City mural. It’s behind Normal Ice Cream on 900 S. in the Maven District. Inquiring minds want to know, what’s your favorite mural?

This week’s “Where Is It?” is a bit of a toughie.
Hint: It’s in the restroom of a new Salt Lake City coffee shop. Name that coffee shop.

Today on City Cast
Condos have a huge role to play [in Utah's affordable housing crisis], especially if we're going to focus on ownership. Like, we should not be building single family homes around a transit station. That's insane.
Why You Can’t Buy Your Downtown Apartment
Everywhere you turn in SLC an apartment complex is sprouting from the ground, with “for-rent” banners begging you to sign a lease. But where the heck are all the for-own condos? Dejan Eskic, senior research fellow at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, joins host Ali Vallarta to break down what barriers are standing in the way of our condominium daydreams and where they fit into our affordable housing crisis.

See you around Small Lake City somewhere 👋
