⚾️ No A's or Bees in SLC

April 5, 2024

Hey, Salt Lake! In today’s newsletter, I’m sharing childhood favorite food establishments that I still adore.

What's CITY Talking About?

A Major League Bummer

Utah won’t be getting a Major League Baseball team, at least not anytime soon. The Larry H. Miller Company offered the Oakland A’s a temporary residence at the ballpark in Daybreak, but the team opted to stay in Sacramento while they await a permanent home in Las Vegas by 2024. Now, Utah must wait for a possible expansion in order to get an MLB team. [Salt Lake Tribune, City Cast Salt Lake]

Coach of the Year

Congrats to Isaac Wood at Salt Lake Community College for winning the Governor’s State of Sport Award for Coach of the Year. He created a cross-country program at the school in 2022, and since then the women’s half marathon and cross-country teams have been awarded NJCAA national titles. [@stateofsport, Instagram]

Prison Education Project

Women who are incarcerated at the Utah State Correctional Facility can now apply for a bachelor’s degree through the University of Utah’s Prison Education Project. The program leaders are raising money for a computer lab to support students in conducting research for their classes. There are hopes of expanding the program to incarcerated men in the future. A Turn of Events

New details have emerged about the demolition of the historic 5th Ward Meetinghouse and it’s bizarre. Plus, the Salt Lake County Democrats had their convention on Saturday. Who will be on your ballot, and who won’t? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
